What is this, in plain words?

No background needed. This site explains one summer of work by ten young people in East Flatbush, Brooklyn — what they built, why it matters, and how you can look through it.

What is this event?

A public report back. On September 3, 2026, ten young people showed the community what they worked on all summer. This website is that same show, online, so anyone can see it any time.

Who are the “Operators”?

Operators are the ten young people in the program. We call them Operators, not interns, because they ran real projects for the neighborhood — research, apps, films, gardens, maps.

What is a Community Resilience Hub?

A building the neighborhood owns and runs. In normal times it is a place for classes, food and meetings. In an emergency — a blackout, a storm, a heat wave — it has power, water and people who can help. Brooklyn Level Up is building the first one here.

Where is “The Flats”?

The Flats is what neighbors call East Flatbush, Brooklyn. It is the neighborhood this work is for and about.

What is a “Sidequest”?

A side project. Alongside the main work, Operators did extra experiences — trips, workshops, small builds — that taught them something new. We borrowed the word from video games.

Do I need to know anything to look around?

No. Everything here is written for someone hearing about it for the first time, and you can read the whole site in English, Spanish, Haitian Creole, French or Urdu using the language buttons at the top.
